The NED was set up during the Reagan administration with the express purpose to be a CIA cut out in order to more covertly fund anti-communist activity. It continues to this day and they continue to funnel millions of dollars every year into so-called pro-democracy programs in China. And you know, the NED has been really open about funding a lot of the Uyghur Human Rights groups. These think tanks also produce reports on China which are often read by people who affect foreign policy or these reports are often cited in corporate media outlets on any kind of article about China.
