The cost of living in the GTA doesn't make that huge a difference between grad student and professor salaries. Some students negotiate with a department, how much funding they get. There's huge inequalities when it comes to private universities,. I attended a public university. But again, these are some of the things that I didn't know quite to navigate very well.
