The Tides of a Tiny Balloon
In the channel between Scotland and Ireland, the water runs back and forth twice a day. High tide is when the moon is directly overhead, or directly under your feet on the opposite side of the earth. Low tide is the theft of that water by the moon's gravity as it travels away. All you know is that you won't reach the shore you spent half a day pedaling towards. You may never again set foot on dry land.
