The Dunning-Kruger effect is a combination of illusory superiority plus regression to the mean, plus these other statistical effects. Researchers in 2016 were able to subdivide their subjects into people with more of a fixed mindset and people who had more of a growth mindset. They found that people with a fixed mindset had a stronger Dunning-kruger effect.
