The Importance of Jewish Awareness of Gender Expression

Two halakot illustrate a rabbinic awareness that gender expression follows local custom, meaning it's socially constructed. The Jewish law was historically based on the assumption of gender duality, male and female. And this should give us the opportunity to recognize that we also then, given a few thousand years distance with science mixed in, we should be able to also kind of say, well, yeah, that is true.
