You decided that you wanted to not be in a relationship with this person and that is your right, obviously. Even if you broke up with him in a pretty bad way, so to speak, it is not your responsibility that he resorted to attempting suicide. There's just so many different things that are completely out of your control and maybe even out of his control. The other thing is that you have trauma. He attempted very violently and you now have the image of him dying violently in the apartment that you shared together. You weren't there, you didn't see it happen, but it was described to you apparently. And that is absolutely enough stimulus to establish ongoing traumatic reaction, including PTSD.
