The Effects of Caloric Restrictions in Mice

The biggest effects from caloric restriction on lifespan in mice are up to about 65% increases in average lifespan at about a 60% restriction of food. So this idea that caloric restriction is always beneficial is a myth, and that's clear from the data. What we don't know is could you find a level of caloric restriction that's beneficial in any given genotype? Probably not, but probably most genetic backgrounds, you could find alevel of restriction where you get some benefit.
