Apocalyptic literature is written usually by minority communities for minority communities and it expresses a pessimistic view of the present time. Revelation sees the historical time in which it's written as a time of great falling away, great idolatry, great immorality. The book employs esoteric language through a heavenly intermediary. It's very absolutist in its language. And one of the ways they provide hope and comfort is because they present a predetermined, a predetermined future that God wins.
