What Is a Dodger?
The team originally started out as the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers. In 1891, General Henry Slocum made it his mission to modernize transportation and bring electric street cars to Brooklyn. A lot of like major league teams in the early days, they went by nicknames instead of their official name.
