The History of the Counterculture
The humanities are increasingly marginalized with regard to its projects. So that project of institution building via celebrities, because when you were saying each institution was hungry to have these stars visit, yes, that's exactly how it operated. In terms of the history of the counterculture, you have a way in which all of that transgressive cultural energy becomes sort of celebrity energy by the 70s. And I remember when Jameson went to Duke, it was like a huge coup for Duke because he was a big star and the fight between the back.
