Simon Conway Morris: I'd be very happy if Zurich shares a Nobel Prize at some point for improving our understanding of how the classical world emerges from quantum mechanics. Kieffek says, if sending particles through a Stern-Gurlock device measures their spin, how does one go about aligning the spin of two particles without measuring them? Or is this just a non-practical idea that only gets proposed in thought experiments? Simon Conway Morris: The proof of the pudding is in the tasting. We'll see which set of ideas and concepts is actually most useful moving forward.
Welcome to the September 2022 Ask Me Anything episode of Mindscape! These monthly excursions are funded by Patreon supporters (who are also the ones asking the questions). We take questions asked by Patrons, whittle them down to a more manageable number — based primarily on whether I have anything interesting to say about them, not whether the questions themselves are good — and sometimes group them together if they are about a similar topic. Enjoy!
