The Antagonism of American Society in Showgirls

Showgirls feels to me like a response to an audience that took basic instinct way too seriously who went into the NC 17 follow-up demanding titillation in every way. Critics complained there was so much nudity that it seized being erotic as if that wasn't the point to dramatize the act of getting everything you think you desire more than enough than should make you feel good and then finding that it actually makes you sick or angry or bored. Verhoeven disagreed everything here is so much more inspiring he said it's the antagonism of American society that makes me feel alive maybe that was trolling too.
