The Importance of Mental Models in Hurricanes

I've done some work with mental models and I can explain more about what those are but essentially a mental model is the way that you internally represent information. What we tried to do in Haiti for example is to identify what types of mental models that they had for hurricanes and provide them support for for their particular model. One of the recommendations that we made is to get rid of this five flag system and have a single hurricane flag that is raised if anything above a tropical storm is approaching so that's one way we tried to optimize what they are working with.
