In a free market, the scientific theories that concord best with reality are the ones that would survive and succeed. But in the current situation, we have that feedback loop from reality severed because the financing doesn't come from the real world. So you have to basically go along with the prevailing school of thought with the prevailing dogma in order to get funding. And that's what prevents science from making any progress.
