The Optimism of Kiev
This experience is something I'm so still processing that I can't even. It's hard to describe it, but I'll do my best. The thing I'm really left with as much as anything is the optimism and unwavering focus and spirit and bite that these people have. This town is thriving in some strange way in that for a while, you saw the taillights leaving the city. Then they realized that they had stopped the invaders from getting there and they blocked them off. In between air raid sirens, they are having school and going out to eat and playing in the park or walking their dogs."
