After the first world war all the armed industries were laid off. A lot of people had died. There's all these demobbed soldiers around the place and the economy is crashing. Mussolini had been a journalist in the pre war period initially a socialist but now he has a breaking up with this. He was an essentially what they call liberal which means middle class. Bortuar interest yes it means economically less a fair Christian democrat.
