I think the biggest loser of this shift away from seeing the faults of say African Americans as being attributable to past and present systemic discrimination is actually white progressives who built their meaning and identity around precisely that role. I mean, if you had a black nationalist movement that said, we have to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, you know, intact families, no more drugs and alcohol, whatever, and we don't need the help of the whites, please stay out.
