Created by Mike Dringenberg said that he based the initial sketch on someone he knew from dance clubs in Utah. The theology of this whole book is weird, I don't want to get super far into it but you do have simultaneously like Lucifer in Hell and death here implying an amount of uncertainty or not knowing what's next about what happens after people die.
