Reading as a form has been a form of meditation. Reading with a pen is very different from reading with a high lighter. It's important for kids toto develop that skill as they get older. I think in er active reading, you know, being a marking up a text as you read it and saying underlining this thought is really important. And i would say that's also true for parents.
Doug Lemov of Uncommon School and co-author of Reading Reconsidered talks with EconTalk host Russ Roberts about reading. Lemov makes the case for the educational importance of critical reading of challenging books and texts. Along the way, he gives listeners some ideas of how to read themselves and gives parents some ideas for how to educate their children.
