Wiser sends in the Bureau's Special Surveillance Group, better known as the Gs. The Gs followed Ames wherever he went, folding it in and out of traffic so as not to attract attention. They were told to check for patterns in his movement,. odd changes to his routine, anything that could be interpreted as a signal. But the Gs came up with nothing, which meant Wiser had to come up with something more drastic. He and his team went to CIA headquarters and searched Ames' desk in the middle of the night.
