With commercial fertilizers, they're almost always producing nitrate. So plants that live in low pH soils don't want nitrates. The lower the pH, the harder it is for the soil to hold these minerals through a magnetic bond. Sandy soils specifically have less charge, therefore have a harder time holding minerals too.
