The typical successful VC had like two out of the following three boxes ticked. So an engineering degree, preferably a masters. Second was the experience of having been an operator when you just mentioned. Third was some kind of business sense, which overlaps a bit with being an operator. And there's a myth that actually was fostered by Andreessen Horowitz, that being an operator is sort of special and new and clearly better than other things.
