The Role of Mitochondria in Mental Health

In a brain cell, how many mitochondria on average do you see and other than producing energy, what else are they doing? It starts getting really complicated quickly. The number of mitochondria in each of those cells is widely variable depending on the size and the function of those cells. Mitochondria actually create the building blocks for many of the key neurotransmitters that we know play a role in mental illness.
