Pike's Mission to Pawnee

Pike's goal was to open up negotiations with the Pawnee and bring them into the American fold. To that end, Pike brought a delegation of Osage Indians with him. A few weeks earlier, more than 600 Spanish soldiers had come to the village looking for American explorers. The news was likely a stunner for Pike because he came to the conclusion that the Spanish were out looking for him.
