The Defilement of Shekum
There's a heavy focus on the sons of Jacob. When Shekum and his father, Hamor, come and start talking to the Israelites, it seems that they're mainly interacting with the sons ofJacob, not with Jacob directly. So here he seems to have lost faith in the Lord's protection of him. And perhaps for some reason, he has gotten away from that strong initiative and the bold willfulness that we've seen in earlier chapters.
