The Effects of Exercise on Serum Ionized Calcium

Within the first 15 minutes of exercise, there is a one milligram per deciliter decrease in serum ionized calcium content. 20 to 25% of this unbound calcium is leaving the vascular space. I thought this was a new discovery. But then I started looking at the literature. And I found a paper from Vic Convertino back in the 1970s. He had reported this decrease in pteromyenized calciumcontent. It was not a new observation, but it certainly was just, you know, there were just these sporadic papers. Nobody had ever followed through on this.
