In June 2018, the US Trump administration introduced tariffs on 6.4 billion of European steel and aluminum exports. In January 2020 that affected around 14 million of EU exports on certain derivatives steel and aluminum products. But then the US suspended these measures in order to give space for the parties to work together on a longer-term solution when the Biden administration agreed to settle their dispute. The electrode negotiators from Brussels and Washington are scrambling until October 2023 to get a deal.
