The Mongol Empire and the Byzantines
The Mongol Empire affected the geostrategic situation of the Byzantines themselves. How did it impact them? That happens in a range of different phases. In perhaps the earliest phase where the geopolitics of it all really impacts nice serious, probably the 1230s. The Mongols displace a lot of Kuman tribes who move south and then ally with the Latin Empire of Constantinople.
