Synonon was originally established as a sincere drug rehabilitation program in the 1950s that became a full fledged cult by 1975. We also used an article about synon on published in 2018 in Los Angeles magazine by Hillel Aaron, which nicely covers the incident that led to the downfall of the largest cult you've never heard of.
