The main reason why kids resemble their parents in their outcomes is genetics is very little to do with upbringing. In the short run parenting effects actually are substantial, but they aren't a big important in the long run. One just is that when people richer, there's just a lot more fun stuff you could be doing. The status quo is not sustainable and we can reduce benefits or raise taxes on those who already have children.
