Sleep debt is just the kind of accumulated sleep that can't be repaid all at once. The best way to pay off your sleep debt is to not set an alarm clock and just sleep until you kind of naturally wake up for a few days in a row. Greg would take that literally, he has done some pretty wild things in terms of staying up for frankly implausible numbers of hours and days. But I have also read that it's recommended and this kind of makes sense to catch up on sleep during the weekend to repair some of your or repay some of your sleep debt.
