The Cosmic Ray Soil Moisture Probe

The cosmic ray soil moisture probe sits above the ground in Buckinghamshire. It collects information from a large area using high energy subatomic particles travelling near the speed of light. The fast neutrons get captured if you like or slowed down, thermalised by the hydrogen in the soil. If there are fewer fast neutrons we infer that the soil is wetter.
