Most wealthy economies ran out of cheap labour ages ago. Older workers tend to be less productive, especially in manufacturing roles. Having institutions that can leverage global supply chains and markets is the biggest determinant of nations that make up the global upper class. The United States has effectively leveraged other people's productive capacity to deliver wealth back to American institutions.
