What Do Clouds Over Dry Land Tell You?
The use of clouds to find nearby land is a tradition among pacific navigators. Clouds over an island below the horizon will tend to have different colors and levels of brightness than clouds floating over the ocean. The v shaped column is present over islands when there is wind and when there are other clouds. I should also add that of the various birds you could site that would give you an indication that you were near land, the dodo the absolute best onc once you've spotted the dodo, you're good to go.
