Is There a Culture of Deafness?

Deafness is not a lack of hearing, but rather as a mode of being. People who are born into deaf culture and speak ASL as their mother tongue do significantly better on tests related to mental rotation skills. Research shows that some of the gains of being deaf are tied to cognition and the use of ASL as one's mother tongue.
