i must credit oliver stone with portraying richard helmes as satan himself in the director's ct of nixon. Yet, in nixon, nixon refers to the bay of pigs thing, he refers to it obliquely as the beast. And this idea that, like, he's not really in control of the government, and that like, his roalist president is only to kind of placate and keep at arm's length this beast represented by richard helms. The mongoose represents an ongoing threat to his life, basically.
