Stupid Peter, the Bumbling Idiot

Stupid peter. Can't believe how many times i've heard that, right? Lesson after lesson, sermon after sermon, we talk about how peter, the bumbling idiot, doesn't know what to say and so he just blurts out idiotic nonsense. But of course, maybe that's not at all what's happening here. Ironically, maybe peter knows his text better than we do. It's what happens next in the story. We didn't pick any of that up ecause we never knew it was a retelling of sinai in the first place. I wonder if the reason why peter stands at the pearly gates, not in the bible
