I think it's probably better from a financial point of view to be in a relationship. People talk about the singles penalty, don't they? Which is simply the fact that the cost of living is higher if you have two sets of bills than one. I'm a big fan of Robert Heinlein's books where instead of just having a couple, you've got an entire family who live together and share money.
