Grief as a Kind of Enhanced State of Emotional Attention
In the course of grieving, what we're doing is we're in a state where this other persons and their death are front and centre. This means that those facts push other kinds of emotional phenomena more to the margins. So i think of grief as a kind of emotionally driven attention. The different aspects of our grief experiences are directed at different parts of our relationship with the deceased. We don't just sort of undergo passivelyt we also engage with it. Some have said that grief is a condition of questioning, right? It seems like one crucial choice that grieving people often have to make for themselves.
