The UAE's Criticism of the COP President Is Justified
COP is a very important meeting and we're finding that more and more influential posts are being grabbed by richer countries with bigger budgets. So, for example, Poland has hosted three COPs in the last 10 years in 2008, 2013, 2018. Qatar has hosted a COP. Egypt, although it's not an OPIC member, I think, has hosted very recently a COP. Most COP presidents step back because the intensity of the job itself is so demanding but he hasn't given up his day-to-day responsibilities. He continues to be head of national state-owned oil company which really is a complete direct conflict of interest.
