The Origins of the English Word Scissors
The word island got its modern s under the false assumption that it had been partly borrowed from french. Scissors also got its modern c in the late fo n hundreds and 15 hundreds, thanks to a mistake. Delight is another french loan with latin roots, but it has a distinctively english spelling.
