Hilmoff-Clin made impressionist paintings that were out of step with what Swedish modernism at the time was looking like. She wanted them to be seen by a specific audience that was to be understanding and embracing of the works. Her deliberate removal of herself from the art world in choosing to make work that was so connected to her spiritual practice is an interesting conundrum about her work.
