The catechism also says if morality requires respect for the life of the body, it does not make it an absolute value. I had a few cases with working in the hospitals where it seemed to be this situation where it was extraordinary means, and it actually seemed wrong to pursue the treatment. The parents want to have more time with the child, but they also have a duty to ensure that their child doesn't suffer unnecessarily.
