"I think there's far too many times that it's like we were on this journey and it is a little bit of a fluid path," she says. "This is the work of the Holy Spirit and allow ourselves to constantly follow his inspirations through this, but to not get so wrapped up into thinking like, Oh, what stage am I right now? Am I the luminous stage?" The Carmelite tradition does need a spiritual director because you need someone who can adjudicate and guide you in this until you could say the full unit of when you reach that prayer where it's not as necessary.
