"I got the strap in grade one, you know, where you have to put out your hand and you get wet," she says. "They put it on the right. I wrote everything backwards... my teacher thought I was doing this willfully." Her mother would give her flashcards with letters and numbers at lunch. She'd then memorize them for an exam by closing her eyes and putting herself in a Zen state before writing down what she had seen or heard. In high school when she took typing, because of that spatial sort of difficulty, she didn't know where her fingers were on the keyboards.
