What Drives Conversation on Line?
CNN's John Sutter spent three years in the world of social media propagandists. He found that many had no core beliefs at all, but were just betting perfectly rationally they could make money on line by being outrageous. They would retreat to these message boards or subits where their worst impulses would be magnified and then taken out as a joke. Wrote: "This stuff that once seemed so shocking and marginal andk just ignorable, it's now so normalized"
