When you first started leading a team yourself, do you remember some of the early mistakes that you tended to make? There were two levels actually. I kicked off as an engineer, sosm chartered engineer, as you mentioned at the outset. And i worked for i c i, which sadly is a company which exists no more but was once a sort of global super super giant. What i learned there, so i didn't have any line management responsibilitythere, but i learned to influence teams when i had no authority over them whatever in order to get things done.
