The Murders of John Williams

On new year's eve of 18 11, the magistrates involved in the mar and williamson murders had the corpse of john williams strapped to the surface of a wide board. They tied down the shipwright's maul and the bloody chisel. The cart was then driven down ratcliffe highway, making stops at each for roughly ten minutes. After all those pit stops, amidst hundreds of onlookers, the cart headed north to the intersection of what is now to day cable street and cannon street road. It's recorded that when the horse bled up to the mars place, william's head rolled to the side, facing away from the shop, as if the corpse didn
