Samson's Nazirite Vows
Samson was a Nazirite who took on very specific strictures and proceeded to break many of them. His story has resonated throughout American history, including in the Black community as well. The fixation of this Nazarite in the American National Consciousness actually extends in fascinating ways to the Black community too. When he was eventually executed, Frederick Douglass referred to John Brown as Samson like Quest or Olav Zechalach.
