The ban on gay men donating plasma has been lifted in the US. But Australia is still very far away from moving to an individual risk-based assessment method for blood donation, according to Dr Chris Gormley. A research group is being put together to look into whether such a model could work for Australia. "We feel like the time to change is now," Mr Gormley says.
